Being Human Being
In my first year at The Glasgow School of Art, in response to our Being Human Being brief, I created an unwearable neckpiece. It features 38 faces with open mouths, connected by a red thread to form a large chain. Each face was crafted from clay, making the jewellery physically and emotionally weighty and unwearable. My primary inspiration for this project came from Ai Weiwei's film "Human Flow" and painter/sculptor Menashe Kadishman's installation "Fallen Leaves". I aimed to contemplate the worldwide refugee crisis and convey my sentiments towards the inhumane treatment of those in dire need. The object I created represents my emotions regarding the global refugee crisis of our time.
